With each day that passes, more than just the actual day is passing. Chances are being passed, taken or rejected. Memories, made or abandoned. Hours, minutes, seconds, are passing EVERY day. Have you ever thought about it? People take days for granted. Think about it. There are 365 days in one year. That seems like a lot, but what if you weren’t promised tomorrow? What if you only had one more day? What if the day you let waste away was the one that could have changed your life? What if you let an opportunity go and that was the ONE opportunity that was going to turn your life around? Have you ever not done something and then looked back and wished you had?
My grandpa always said “Live in the moment. Do not wish your life away.” When you are growing up, everyone wants to be older than they really are. Everyone wants to be 16 so they can drive. Everyone wants to be 18 so they can legally be an adult. Everyone wants to be 21 so they can drink (well some people). Everyone wants to graduate college with a degree, get married, and start a family of their own. Everyone wants to know what love is and live through their 40th, 50th, 60th wedding anniversary. I will admit when I was a kid i could NOT WAIT to be grown up. Drive my own car, be on my own…I had my whole life planned out. But now as I am sitting here at 19 years of age at college I would give anything to be young again. Less school work, less stress, no worries, no care in the world. I mean I don’t necessarily want to be 5 again and go through all the learning again, but I would love to have the spirit of youth again. When I think about being young, I think about absolutely enjoying and loving life. Taking in every moment, not caring what anyone thought. I would give anything to have that spirit again.
You are never promised tomorrow. You never know when your last day will be. You never know when you say goodbye if it is going to be forever. You have to TAKE every opportunity. You have to MAKE the memories that are going to last a lifetime. If you sit around and just watch the clock slowly tick away, you are gaining nothing. Your life is literally ticking away with every second that passes away. You have to make the most of every day so if your time comes tomorrow to go Home, you will be satisfied with your life. No one wants to look back and think of all the things they could have done different or look back on all the missed chances to do something great.
“As you grow up, you will learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it’s harder every time. You’ll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You’ll fight with your best friend. You’ll blame a new love for things an old one did. You’ll cry because time is passing too fast, and you’ll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you’ve never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you’ll never get back. Don’t be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.“
